SketchCity Rotterdam

With our school I went to Rotterdam NL on a study trip where we worked with other students from the Netherlands. In a virtual project to improve the environment of Rotterdam in sustainable ways, we had to find solutions in groups. What was special about this task was that we had to sketch and draw specific parts of the city and incorporate our ideas into that process. My part was called Nieuw Mathenesse, an area that is mainly industrial but is changing for the better. There are also some social projects running such as growing vegetables on the green spaces in the area.

Guiseppe Gabellone

In my studies to become a media engineer, we had to take part in a module called „Visualize“. In the first semester, we were given the assignment of creating a folding poster. Part of the assignment was to develop our own typeface based on an artist and their artwork. In addition, we had to do research on the artist and their work, as the back of the poster had to be a flyer of sorts for a fictional exhibition. I was very „lucky“ with my artist because his name is Guiseppe Gabellone and it consists of 18 letters.

xStoria360

„xStoria360 – A concept for an interactive tour through the history of a city“ was the title for my bachelor thesis in Media Engineering. The concept formed the practical part of my final thesis, in which I wanted to find out how XR (Extended Reality, collective term for the mix of AR, VR and MR) can be used in the field of media didactics. For xStoria360, the goal was to create and design a prototype that deals with the history of my hometown Bern. It is about real historical figures, their actions and meaning in different eras of the city. The plan was that young people or people interested in history, equipped only with a smart device, can travel to another time in history.

Pere/Faran/Varn/Fahren

For an entrance examination, I had to complete the following task: Designing a poster, a leporello and a flyer on the topic of “FAHREN”, the German word for driving or traveling. After doing some research on the origin of the word, I found that the word has a broad connection to migration. From the Indo-German word for driving a boat to the Gothic word “Faran” which expressed, for example, people who were on foot and in search of a new home. Given the current events in the world at that time, I then tried to deal with this complex topic.

Reverse

This short movie was the first film project I made during my studies to become a multimedia engineer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. Together with two fellows students from my college and a lot of people who volunteered to help, we created some sort of dystopia mixed with personal daily struggles like getting up in the morning. The protagonist, on his way to work, realizes that everyone around him is… no spoilers! We also had to create all the logos ourselves, had to do some cover artwork, and a documentary that sums it all up.

Ayurvedapraxis Katharina Gusset

The website for Katharina Gusset, an Ayurvedic masseuse based in Bern, was my first own professional experience in building and maintaining a website. The task included to design some elements that had to be in the same style as the already existing logo. From time to time some adjustments to the functionality and print products like flyers or banners were added to the project.

A wedding feast

My big sister’s wedding in 2015 had to be perfect, as all weddings should actually be titled (someone once told me). Still, it was a big effort and so I tackled the task of designing all the things that needed to be printed, like invitations, save-the-date letters and even the menu card.

Quotemory

In my one year at the “Schule für Gestaltung Bern / Biel” I had the opportunity to learn about different areas of art. From sculpture to drawing to video and photo production and graphic design, we got the whole gamut in these courses. This project came about in a graphic design class where we were asked to design a memory game and try to look at typography. The goal of this particular memory was to match movie quotes to the characters who said them.
